MINUTES OF THE HINGHAM SCHOOL COMMITTEE

 

January 8, 2007

 

Regular Session

 

 

The meeting was called to order by Chrisanne Gregoire at 7:33 p.m. at the School Department Conference Room.   

 

Members Present:         Chrisanne Gregoire, Steve Nagle, Christine Smith, Barbara Cook, Esther Healey, Linda Hill.

 

Central Office Present:  Dot Galo, Ellen Keane, Jean Curtis Loud, David Killory.

 

Visitors Present:            Sharon McKay, Gretchen Hersey, Betsy Connolly, Carolyn Loughlin, Mike Barclay.

 

 

On a motion by Linda Hill and seconded by Barbara Cook,

 

            It was

            Voted:              To approve the Minutes of the Regular Session of December 18, 2006. Steve Nagle abstained.

 

 

New Business.

 

The Committee heard a report from the 2006 School Building Committee and Ai3 on the design development process for the proposed new elementary school.  Alan Macdonald, Chair of the Committee, reviewed the report.  Scott Dunlap from Ai3 presented an overview of the site plan.  Jim Jordan presented an overview of the proposed school layout, classrooms, core areas and exteriors.  Committee members and the audience asked questions. 

 

On a motion by Esther Healey and seconded by Barbara Cook,

 

            It was

            Voted:              To approve the educational program for the proposed new elementary school, as  recommended by the School Building Committee.

 

On a motion by Christine Smith and seconded by Linda Hill,

 

            It was

            Voted:              To approve the schematic design for the proposed new elementary school, as  recommended by the School Building Committee.

 

On a motion by Christine Smith and seconded by Linda Hill,

 

            It was

            Voted:              To change a School Committee meeting date from January 29, 2007 to January  22, 2007.

 

Dot Galo reviewed the NEASC/CPSS Standard on Mission Part I of a 7-part discussion.  Committee members asked questions.

 

The Committee received notification of the resignation for the purpose of retirement of Christine Tokle, a grade 6 teacher at Hingham Middle School, effective June 30, 2007. 

 

The Committee received notification of the resignation for the purpose of retirement of Iris Gillard, a social studies teacher at Hingham High School, effective June 30, 2007. 

 

The Committee received notification of the advancement on the salary schedule to Master’s +30 for Alan Freedman, a grade 6 teacher at Hingham Middle School, effective February 1, 2007.

 

The Committee received notification of the advancement on the salary schedule to Bachelor’s +15 for Lindsay Vaughan, a music teacher at South School, effective February 1, 2007. 

 

The Committee received notification of the appointment of Rebecca Bielawa as a teacher at Kids In Action, effective January 2, 2007. 

 

The Committee received notification of the appointment of William Doucette as a custodian at Hingham High School, effective January 2, 2007.

 

Superintendent’s Report.

 

1.         Hingham Municipal Lighting Plant Solar Project at Hingham High School.

 

2.         Enrollment update.
