MINUTES OF THE HINGHAM SCHOOL COMMITTEE
January 22, 2007
The meeting was called to order by Chrisanne Gregoire at 7:40 p.m. at the School Department Conference Room.
Members Present: Chrisanne Gregoire, Steve Nagle, Christine Smith, Barbara Cook, Esther Healey, Linda Hill, Kristin Parnell.
Central Office Present: Dot Galo, Ellen Keane, Jean Curtis Loud, David Killory.
Visitors Present: Paula Girouard McCann, Roger Boddie, Gretchen Hersey, Mike Barclay, Dennis Friedman.

Voted: To approve the Minutes of the Budget Hearing of January 4, 2007.
On a motion by Linda Hill and seconded by Esther Healey,

Voted: To approve the Minutes of the Regular Session of January 8, 2007.

Voted: To approve the Minutes of the Budget Hearing of January 11, 2007, as corrected.
Communications.
Dot Galo noted a letter to the Selectmen regarding the naming of the proposed elementary school and a letter to Paula Girouard McCann from Commissioner David Driscoll, notifying her that HHS has been selected as a 2007 Commonwealth Compass School.
New Business.
The Committee received the proposed Program of Studies for 2007-2008. Ellen Keane reviewed a summary of the revisions. Committee members asked questions.

Voted: To approve the three recommendations of January 17 by the Long Range Planning Subcommittee.
Dot Galo reviewed the NEASC/CPSS Standard on Curriculum, Part II of a 7-part discussion.
The Committee received notification of the resignation for the purpose of retirement of Philip Schuyler Thaxter, Library Media Specialist at Hingham High School, effective June 30, 2007.
The Committee received notification of the maternity leave of absence for Julie McDonough, a grade 6 teacher at Hingham Middle School, effective January 26, 2007 through June 30, 2007.
The Committee received notification of the maternity leave of absence for Eileen Sharkey, a science teacher at Hingham High School, effective April 2, 2007 through June 30, 2007.
The Committee received notification of the appointment of Cynthia Bonani as a grade 2 teacher at Plymouth River School, effective January 22, 2007.
The Committee received notification of the appointment of Lucia Herrera as a long-term substitute Spanish teacher at Plymouth River School, effective January 8, 2007 through June 30, 2007.
The Committee received notification of the appointment of Donna Galvin as a paraprofessional at Hingham Middle School, effective January 2, 2007.
The Committee received notification of the advancement on the salary schedule to Master’s +60 for Karen Breen, a grade 3 teacher at South School, effective February 1, 2007.
The Committee received notification of the advancement on the salary schedule to Master’s +30 for Rebecca Milbury, a social studies teacher at Hingham High School, effective February 1, 2007.
The Committee received notification of the advancement on the salary schedule to Master’s +30 for Carole Smith, a grade 3 teacher at Plymouth River School, effective February 1, 2007.
2006 School Building Committee and Sub-Committee Reports.
Steve Nagle reviewed a recent School Building Committee meeting. Esther Healey reported on a recent Hingham Middle School Climate Committee meeting.
Superintendent’s Report.
1. Review of safety and security processes and measures in light of the recent stabbing and death of a student at Lincoln-Sudbury High School.
