MINUTES OF THE HINGHAM SCHOOL COMMITTEE
November 5, 2007
The meeting was called to order by Chrisanne Gregoire at 7:38 p.m. at Hingham Middle School.
Members Present: Chrisanne Gregoire, Christine Smith, Barbara Cook, Caryl Falvey, Esther Healey, Linda Hill, Steve Nagle.
Central Office Present: Dot Galo, Ellen Keane, Jean Curtis Loud, David Killory.
Visitors Present: Gretchen Amonte, Doug Holley, Roger Boddie, Derek Smith, David Riordan, Brooke Davolos, Carolyn Farris, Amy Corriveau, June Gustafson, Todd Millen, Melissa Robin, Charlotte Alger.

Voted: To approve the Minutes of the Regular Session of October 22, 2007.
Communications.
The Committee heard a report from Hingham Middle School. Roger Boddie, Principal, reported on the Red Sox Spirit Day and donation to the Jimmy Fund, staff data , five M.S. teachers attending the National Middle School Association Conference in Houston, Texas, space needs and current and projected student enrollment. Brooke Davolos, Carolyn Farris, Amy Corriveau, and June Gustafson demonstrated the use of SMART boards in geography, math, English, science, and social studies. Committee members asked questions and thanked Roger and the teachers for their presentation.
Student Communications.
Charlotte Alger spoke about various student council fundraising drives and the Green Committee, lip sync contest, fall musical “Urinetown”, school store, changes in dances, Bosnia student attending HHS and alternatives to the use of styrofoam products in the cafeteria.
New Business.
The Committee heard a report on the Terra Nova CAT results for grades 3 and 6 for 2006-2007. Ellen Keane presented an overview of the report, including strengths, areas of concerns and improvement steps.

Voted: To approve the Salary & Fringe Benefits Guideline for the position of Data Technician, as recommended by the Salary & Negotiations Subcommittee.
The Committee received notification of the appointment of Ashley Baxter as a paraprofessional at Hingham Middle School, effective October 22, 2007.
Budget.
The Committee received the first quarter financial report for 2007-2008. David Killory reviewed the FY ’08 school budget update.
2006 School Building Committee and Subcommittee Reports.
Christine Smith, Chair of the Long Range Planning Subcommittee, reported on a recent meeting. The Subcommittee will make a recommendation to the School Committee regarding field options at a late November or early December meeting.
Superintendent’s Report.
1. MRSA update.
2. HHS performance “Urinetown”.
3. Adams Scholars – MCAS Performance.
4. HEF thank you letter re. HHS student participation in the Telethon.
5. Town Forum.
