MINUTES OF THE HINGHAM SCHOOL COMMITTEE
November 19, 2007
The meeting was called to order by Chrisanne Gregoire at 7:40 p.m. at Foster School.
Members Present: Chrisanne Gregoire, Christine Smith, Barbara Cook, Caryl Falvey, Esther Healey, Linda Hill, Steve Nagle.
Central Office Present: Dot Galo, Ellen Keane, Jean Curtis Loud, David Killory.
Visitors Present: Roger Boddie, Laney Silva, Alan Freedman, Betsy Connolly, Debbie Stellar, Doug Holley, Sharon McKay, Jean Garrity, Carol Meyer of the Hingham Journal.

Voted: To approve the Minutes of the Regular Session of November 5, 2007.
Communications.
The Committee heard a report from Foster School. Debbie Stellar, Principal, and Betsy Connolly, Assistant Principal, presented a report including the school improvement plan focuses and goals and community activities, staff, programs, the students, and literacy, math, responsibility, service, diversity, and conservation programs and activities. Committee members asked questions and thanked Debbie and Betsy for their report.
New Business.
The Committee heard a report on MCAS, Spring, 2007. Ellen Keane presented an overview including strengths, areas of concerns, and improvement steps. Committee members asked questions.
The Committee heard a report on Fall 2007 AYP ratings. Ellen Keane presented an overview of the district and school AYP results. Committee members asked questions.
The Committee received notification of the retirement of Maria Aiello, a food service worker at Hingham High School, effective October 1, 2007.
The Committee received notification of the resignation of Joan Levett, a paraprofessional at South School, effective November 21, 2007.
The Committee received notification o the resignation of Kathleen Peloquin, a paraprofessional at Foster School, effective November 20, 2007.
2006 School Building Committee and Subcommittee Reports.
Steve Nagle reported on a recent School Building Committee meeting. Christine Smith, Chair, Long Range Planning Subcommittee, reported on a recent meeting regarding athletic field options. Chris Gregoire reported on the MASC Conference.
Superintendent’s Report.
1. Letter from League of Women Voters regarding observers at School Committee meetings.
2. Elementary Parents Literacy newsletter.
3. November 1 enrollment.

Voted: By roll call vote, with all in favor, to adjourn to Executive Session at 9:45 p.m. to discuss strategies pertaining to Collective Bargaining. The Committee stated it would not re-convene in Regular Session.
